Taj Mahal
quartzite

The most requested quartzite in America, and the one stone that settles the marble-versus-granite argument. Soft cream and ivory with quiet, feathered veining, and hard enough to live in a working kitchen without apology.

Why people specify it

Taj Mahal quartzite slab at ARCA in Wynwood, Miami

Harder than granite

Quartzite is recrystallised sandstone. Taj Mahal sits around 7 on the Mohs scale, above granite, and it does not etch the way marble does when acid meets a polished surface. Wine, lemon and coffee are not emergencies.

The warmth marble gets credit for

Where Calacatta reads cool and graphic, Taj Mahal reads warm. Cream, ivory and the faintest gold, with veining that drifts rather than slashes. In north-facing Miami interiors it keeps a room from going grey.

It photographs the way it looks

The reason designers keep specifying it: there is no surprise between the render and the install. The pattern is calm enough that book-matching is forgiving and busy enough that a large island never looks flat.

"Taj Mahal granite" is this stone

Half the trade advertises Taj Mahal as granite. It is a quartzite, and that is good news rather than a correction: quartzite is harder than granite and does not etch the way marble does. If you came here searching for granite, you found the stone you meant, and a better version of what you were expecting.

We do also keep a small, curated selection of true granite. If granite is genuinely what you want rather than the name you happened to search, say so when you call and we will tell you exactly what is on the floor.
