Q: Do you have Calacatta Viola in stock right now?

Yes. We are currently holding roughly thirty-five slabs across honed and polished in 3/4 inch, plus polished tile. Because Viola's veining varies so much block to block, the honest answer to 'do you have it' is always: come and see which pieces we have, because that is the real decision.

Q: Will Calacatta Viola etch?

Yes, it is marble. Acids will leave a dull mark on a polished surface, and sealing slows staining but does not prevent etching. If that rules it out for you, honed hides it far better, and Taj Mahal quartzite gives you a hard-wearing alternative. If you want the Viola colour, accept the patina as part of it.

Q: Is Calacatta Viola the same as Calacatta Gold or Borghini?

No. They share the Calacatta family name and the white ground, but Viola's veining is burgundy and plum where Gold runs warm honey and Borghini runs grey to charcoal. We stock all three, which is the fastest way to see the difference.

Q: How do I know I am getting real Viola and not a lookalike?

You look at the slab. Real Viola has depth and directional crystal in the veining that a printed surface cannot fake, and we can show you a porcelain lookalike beside it. Every slab we sell comes off our own floor with its lot, so there is nothing to take on trust.

Q: Can you hold slabs while my fabricator quotes?

Anything you shortlist at a booked visit we hold for forty-eight hours, which is normally enough for a fabricator to price the job. For larger specifications talk to Cecilia at the visit about a longer hold.

Colour that no engineered slab reproduces

The violet comes from iron and manganese in the original limestone. Printed porcelain and laminate copies flatten it into pink, because a photograph of Viola cannot carry the depth the crystals actually have. Side by side in person the difference is not subtle.

Every slab is a different painting

Viola's veining is wild rather than repeating, so two slabs from the same block can look like different stones. That is why buying it from photographs is a mistake and why book-matching has to be planned on the actual pieces, on the floor, with the fabricator's drawings in hand.

Designed to be the one bold move

It works hardest in a powder room, a bar front, a fireplace surround or a book-matched feature wall. Used across an entire kitchen it fights everything else in the room, and we will tell you that before you buy.
